Have employees who are missing managers in your employee directory? Learn how to add that data in this article, so you can set accurate behavioral data permissions (“BDP”).
Why is manager data needed for BDP?
Behavioral data permissions are built on organization structure, which is determined based on each employee’s manager. Without manager data, the PI system is unable to identify reporting lines, and thus cannot restrict behavioral data accordingly.
How to add missing manager data
There are several ways to add manager data to your directory. Use the one that best aligns with your specific data needs.
If you are missing manager data for many or most employees:
- Upload an org file with updated employee information (including “manager name”).
- Alternatively, you can set up an HRIS integration, which will automatically sync employee and manager data.
If you are missing manager data for just a few employees:
- Manually update their manager data for each employee via the edit employee details page.
- If multiple employees share a manager, you can perform a bulk action to add that manager to each employee’s record at once.
How to add/update manager data via bulk action
If you’d prefer to make manual updates in bulk, you can do so from the employee directory.
From the Administration page:
- Click “Employee Directory” on the left-hand side.
- Search for the employee(s) whose manager you’d like to add/update.
- Select the checkbox next to the name(s) of the employee(s).
- Click the dropdown box titled “Actions.”
- Select “Change Manager” from the options.
- A panel will open titled “Change Manager.”
- Enter the name of the new manager for the selected employees.
- (Optional) If you added any employees by mistake, remove them by clicking “Remove from list.”
- Confirm changes by clicking “Save Changes.”
- The selected employees will be updated with the new manager data.
