Adding manager data for behavioral data permissions

Learn how to add or update manager information in your employee directory, so you can set comprehensive behavioral data permissions.

Updated over a week ago

Have employees who are missing managers in your employee directory? Learn how to add that data in this article, so you can set accurate behavioral data permissions (“BDP”).

Why is manager data needed for BDP?

Behavioral data permissions are built on organization structure, which is determined based on each employee’s manager. Without manager data, the PI system is unable to identify reporting lines, and thus cannot restrict behavioral data accordingly.

How to add missing manager data (recommended)

The easiest way to add missing manager data for BDP is to do so directly from the Behavioral Data Permissions page in Administration.

To do so:

  1. Log in to the PI software.

  2. Select the gear icon () in the top-right corner.

  3. You will land in PI Administration.

  4. Select "Behavioral Data Permissions" on the left-hand side.

  5. You will land on the Behavioral Data Permissions page.

  6. Within the "Restricted" setting, you will see a banner titled "You have employees who are missing managers."

  7. Click the bolded number over the text that reads "Missing a manager."

  8. A panel titled "Change manager" will open.

  9. Select the checkbox next to any employees who share the same manager.

  10. Click the "Select manager" button.

  11. Search for the name or email of the manager you'd like to associate with the selected employees.

  12. Select the manager from the dropdown options.

  13. (Optional) Select "Remove from list" to remove any employees you selected by accident.

  14. Once satisfied with the list, click the button titled "Change manager for X employees."

  15. A success message titled "Changes Saved" will appear.

  16. The warning banner will update, showing the new number of employees who are still missing a manager. (If this doesn't happen automatically, try refreshing the page.)

  17. Repeat the above steps until all employees have been assigned a manager.

Exception: If an employee is showing on this list because they don't have a manager (i.e., they are the CEO or a division head), leave their manager field blank. By design, they will have unrestricted access to employee behavioral data.
