Adding custom fields to organization data

Learn how to add custom fields in PI Diagnose when uploading organization data, so you can fine-tune your survey filtering efforts.

Updated over a week ago

This article applies to all users in the PI2 platform.

Want to capture respondent data not already captured by Diagnose? You can do so by uploading custom fields before sending a survey.

How custom fields work in Diagnose

When importing organization data, Diagnose has a set of “required columns” needed to properly send a survey. However, there are also “optional data” fields you can use to gather additional respondent data.

While most optional data fields are predetermined (e.g., Date of birth, Gender, Location), you can also upload up to 3 custom fields with your data file.

How to add custom fields to Diagnose

  1. Choose the “Import organizational data” option for the relevant survey.

  2. Click “Download” to download your existing data file. (If you haven’t uploaded a file before, you will instead see an option to download a template file.)

  3. Click into your organization file.

  4. Add up to 3 custom headers.

In the above example, we created 3 custom headers: “WorkEnvironment,” “WorkShift,” and “BenefitPlan.”

  5. Save your file.

  6. Back in Diagnose, click “Upload an organization file” (if you’ve never uploaded a file) or “Upload new data” (if you’ve previously uploaded a file).

  7. A pop-up will open prompting you to upload your file.

  8. Follow the in-software directions.

  9. You will be prompted to match the columns in your data file with corresponding fields in Diagnose. Under “Column in the template,” select one of the following fields:

    • Custom 1

    • Custom 2

    • Custom 3

In the above example, we paired the “WorkShift” field from our file with the “Custom 1” field in Diagnose. You can repeat this up to 2 more times (one column for “Custom 2,” and another column for “Custom 3”).

  10. Click “Next.”

  11. Proceed through the rest of the prompts.

  12. Click “Import” to confirm.

Your custom fields are good to go! Next, you’ll be prompted to schedule your survey.

Once you’ve sent out your survey and respondents start to complete it, Diagnose will capture data including your new custom fields.

FAQs

Now that Diagnose is recording my custom fields, can I filter by them?

Currently, Diagnose does not support filtering of custom fields. In the coming months, however, we will be adding advanced filtering features, including custom fields support.

In the meantime, we recommend you set up your custom fields now, so you can filter them once the functionality is live.
