This article applies to all Design users in the PI2 platform.
Once you've created a team and added team members, you'll want to reveal your Team Type. Doing so allows you to view key behavioral insights about your team β including strengths and potential caution areas β so you can learn how to work better together.
Learn more about Team Types, and how to reveal yours, in this article.
Note: In some areas of PI Design, you may see a prompt to "activate" your team. This verbiage is from an older iteration of the PI software; treat it as synonymous with revealing your Team Type.
What is a Team Type?
A Team Type is one of 9 archetypal teams identified by PI's science team. Each Team Type helps to describe the unique behavioral dynamics of a specific group of people.
Here's a list of the 9 Team Types you'll find in Design:
Exploring Team
Bolstering Team
Cultivating Team
Anchoring Team
Stabilizing Team
Executing Team
Producing Team
Pathfinding Team
Adapting Team
Tip: Think of your Team Type similarly to a PI Reference Profile. Whereas the 17 Reference Profiles help illustrate the behavioral tendencies of individuals, the 9 Team Types show how behaviors manifest in a team setting.
How to reveal your PI Team Type
Log in to the PI software.
Select Design from the top navigation bar.
You will land on the Team Discovery page.
Select the team whose Team Type you'd like to reveal.
You will land on your team page.
Scroll down until you see the box titled "Step 2: Team Type."
Click the button titled "Activate."
The box will populate with your Team Type, along with your team's strengths and potential caution areas.
Note: Still waiting on team members to complete the PI Behavioral Assessment? No worries. Your Team Type will automatically update as team members complete the assessment.
How to edit your Team Type
Need to make changes to your team? Your Team Type will automatically update as you add or remove team members.
To edit your Team Type:
Scroll up to the box titled "Step 1: Team Members."
Click "Edit team members."
Add or remove team members as needed.
Your changes will save automatically, and your Team Type will automatically update based on the current team members.
Note: Don't see a change to your Team Type? Don't worry. Adding or removing a few employees on a large team (e.g., 15 people) likely won't change the results as drastically as it would on a smaller team (e.g., 6 or 7 people).

Your Team Type will automatically update as you add or remove team members. No need to manually update it!
Our Team Type didn't change when we added/removed a team member. Why?
Our Team Type didn't change when we added/removed a team member. Why?
This is likely intentional. Adding or removing a few employees on a large team (e.g., 15 people) likely won't change the results as drastically as it would on a smaller team (e.g., 6 or 7 people).

Is there a limit to how many teams I can "activate" to reveal their Team Type?
No. The concept of activating teams is being deprecated from PI Design. While you may still see the term "activate" in certain areas of Design, there is no limit to how many teams you can active or Team Types you can reveal.
