Obi conversation memory

Product: Obi

Release type: Enhancement

Tentative release window: Late October 2026

Who it's for: All Obi users in PI2

What it solves: Allows Obi to remember past conversations.

Currently, Obi conversations are isolated instances. Each time you chat, Obi starts from scratch, with the exception of any organization context or context chips (a job, an employee, a team, etc.) it may have to reference.

With this upcoming release, we'll be adding persistent memory to Obi between chats, allowing it to remember and learn from past conversations. For instance, Obi will be able to:

  • Give answers that pick up where Obi previously left off.

  • Follow the user's preferences without need to be retrained.

  • Organically reference people and roles from past chats.

  • Require fewer clarifying questions.

Example: You prefer answers that are more concise. If you tell Obi "moving forward, keep your responses short," Obi will adhere to that preference, even in subsequent chats.

Note: This release is the first in a series of enhancements we plan to make to Obi memory. Timing and details for future updates are still TBD.

FAQs

Is the Obi memory release currently live?

No. This release is planned for release in late October 2026.

Will Obi consider every single request I make a preference?

No. As a rule of thumb, Obi will retain clear preferences (e.g., "moving forward, keep your responses short"); Obi will not consider ad-hoc requests (e.g., "make this job ad formal") to be a preference.

Will Obi memory retain PI data like Reference Profiles and assessment results?

No. With this release, Obi will continue to pull that data live from PI.

Will there be a way to see or edit what Obi remembers?

No. While Obi will occasionally explain that it is drawing from past knowledge, there is no setting or screen that lets you review all of its past learnings. However, we are considering this functionality for a future update.

Will Obi memory slow down the chat experience?

No. Obi memory runs in the background, allowing chats to maintain the current speed you're used to.
