Using the Job Ad Optimizer

Improve your job listings with the Job Ad Optimizer in PI Hire. Learn how to use the JAO to write better ads and attract stronger talent

This article applies to all Hire users in the PI2 platform.

By using the Job Ad Optimizer (JAO), you can align your job postings to the different behaviors that lend to success in a given role, using language and references that resonate with the type of person who possesses those behaviors.

The JAO leverages the Job Target to inform its analysis. This analysis focuses on areas of misalignment between the ad and the role, according to the Target set when you create a Job.

How to use the Job Ad Optimizer

  1. Log in to the PI software.

  2. Select Hire from the top navigation bar.

  3. You will land on the Hiring Center.

  4. Search for and select an existing job (or create a new job).

  5. On the Job Target screen, click on the tab labeled Job Ad Optimizer.

  6. In the Job Ad Optimizer field, paste your job requirements.

  7. Click "Analyze" to confirm.

Once the request processes, you'll arrive at an output page.

If the job ad is a good match to the Job Target, under Alignment Recommendations, you'll see a green check mark and a message that reads: "Your job ad looks great!"

You'll also see suggestions to help you fine-tune your job ad. These suggestions include phrases and terms to apply to your existing job ad, so the content more closely aligns with the Job Target.

How does the Job Ad Optimizer analysis work?

The Job Ad Optimizer uses artificial intelligence and natural language processing to determine how well your job ad represents the behavioral requirements of your open job (as indicated by your Job Target).

Specifically, it calculates:

  • The behaviors represented by each sentence

  • A score for each individual sentence

  • An aggregate score for the entire ad

  • How those scores compare to your Job Target

Behaviors might be represented explicitly (e.g., “must be extraverted”), or implicitly (e.g., “motivates and energizes the team”). The more clearly the wording implies what could lend to success, the more likely the ad will score well.

Some recommendations may be generated by factors that do not match the job target. For instance, if a job description places importance on influencing others, but the job target calls for more independence, then the Job Ad Optimizer (JAO) will recommend the user replace text that indicates the need to manage and influence others with an emphasis on harmony and the need to support others.

FAQs

Can I download/export the Job Ad Optimizer results?

Yes. You can export the JAO output at any time by clicking the "Download" button at the bottom of the page.

Does the Job Ad Optimizer save the job description?

Yes. Once you input your job ad into the JAO, the tool will save the copy for future use. You can find and access the job description by clicking the "Job Ad Optimizer" tab within the job page in Hire.

Any future changes to your job ad will also be saved, provided you click "Save and recalculate" prior to navigating away from the page.

Can I use a job ad or description to create a Job Target from scratch?

No. The Job Ad Optimizer helps ensure your job description accurately reflects an existing Behavioral Target. It is not able to create a net-new target from your job description alone.

That said, you can manually modify your Behavioral Target at any time. Feel free to modify the target to account for discrepancies between the target and the job ad content.
