Choosing a PI benchmark

Learn how to create Behavioral Targets by choosing a benchmark in PI Hire. Leverage thousands of industry data points to get hiring quicker.

Updated over 2 weeks ago

This article applies to all Hire users in the PI2 platform.

PI Hire contains a database of thousands of real-world jobs. Each of these jobs has a preset Behavioral Target that matches the characteristics people in this role usually have.

When you create a job and input a job title, our software will search through the database and list any close matches.

How to choose a benchmark

If you're creating a new job

  1. From the Hiring Center, select the "Create New Job" button.

  2. Enter the job title.

  3. Click "Continue."

  4. On the left-hand side, select "Choose a PI benchmark."

  5. Select a benchmark from the list.

  6. Select "Save & Continue."

  7. Your Job will be created, and your Behavioral Target will populate based on the PI benchmark.

If you're editing an existing Job

  1. Select a job from the Hiring Center.

  2. Click the "Job Target" tab (if not already selected).

  3. On the left-hand side, select "Choose a PI benchmark."

  4. Select a benchmark from the list.

  5. Select "Save & Continue."

  6. Your Behavioral Target will populate based on the PI benchmark.

Important: When editing a existing job, the Behavioral Target will not automatically default to the PI benchmark you've set.

To ensure you're using the PI benchmark (as opposed to a custom target or a top performer target), click the "Set as Active Target" button.

FAQs

Is is possible to choose a different benchmark once set?

No. Currently, PI Hire does not support the ability to change benchmarks once one's been selected for a job.

Instead, we recommend creating a new job and selecting the desired benchmark. Alternatively, you can set a different target within the existing job, such as a custom target.

None of the suggested benchmarks fit the job title. What now?

If you don't see a benchmark that aligns with your job title, there are 2 ways you might proceed:

  1. Search for a different benchmark

  2. Create your own benchmark

Option 1: Search for a different benchmark

  1. Click "Search for a different job title."

  2. Enter an alternate job title that might yield the benchmark you're looking for.

  3. Hit "Search."

  4. Select a new benchmark and proceed.

Option 2: Create your own benchmark

  1. Click the hyperlink titled "Create your own benchmark."

  2. You'll be brought to the "Create a custom target" page.

  3. Select your preferred type of custom target:

    • "Create your own" lets you build a Behavioral Target from scratch by selecting the characteristics you consider critical to success in this role.

    • "Create a collaborative target" lets you solicit feedback from up to 6 stakeholders to inform the Behavioral Target. (You can include yourself as a contributor.)
