This article is for client-side IT administrators, technical sponsors, and individual ChatGPT users enabling PI's MCP connector during the current pre-beta phase.
Learn how to enable the Predictive Index MCP connector and get PI-powered behavioral intelligence right in ChatGPT.
Important: How you connect PI's MCP depends on your ChatGPT plan. On personal plans (Free, Go, Plus, Pro), you set it up yourself. On Business, Enterprise, and Edu, a workspace admin has to create and publish the connector first. Find your plan below.
Tip: Before you start, make sure you've met the PI-specific prerequisites for enabling the MCP.
Note: The Predictive Index MCP is currently in pre-beta. We plan to make regular changes and updates on the road to its full release.
Who can add the connector to ChatGPT?
The answer depends on your specific ChatGPT plan:
Free, Go, Plus, and Pro: You add the connector yourself. No admin is involved.
Business: Only a workspace admin or owner can create and publish the connector. Once it's published, each member connects their own PI account.
Enterprise and Edu: An admin publishes the connector and chooses which groups can use it. Once it's published, each member connects their own PI account.
Important: ChatGPT doesn't support setup for custom MCP apps on mobile, meaning these setup steps apply only to ChatGPT via web. Once configured, however, you can use the MCP on mobile.
Note: ChatGPT uses different names depending on your role. Admins manage the connector as an "App," and members may find it under "Plugins." Both names refer to the same thing.

Here's a breakdown of the MCP functionality supported by plan:

Personal-plan support reflects PI's testing as of September 2026. OpenAI may change which plans support custom MCP apps.
How to connect PI's MCP to ChatGPT
Note: ChatGPT's menu labels and navigation flows change over time. If a label below does not match what you see in ChatGPT, please use our host-agnostic steps for general guidance.
Personal plans: Free, Go, Plus, and Pro
In ChatGPT on the web, go to Settings → Security and login and turn on Developer mode.
Open Plugins, select "+," select "Create app," then select "Create MCP App" with these details:
Name: Predictive Index
Connection / Server URL: https://mcp.predictiveindex.com/mcp
Authentication: OAuth
Select the acknowledgement checkbox, then click "Create" to finish adding the MCP.
Sign in with your PI account and approve the consent screen.
To test the connection: In a new chat, open the + menu, select "Predictive Index," and enter this prompt: “Show me my behavioral assessment results." (Or, run the test in "Verifying PI's MCP connection.")
Note: On personal plans, the app is private to you. There's no publish step.

Business plans
Step 1: Create the app (admin)
Turn on developer mode for your own account under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode. You'll also be prompted when you start creating an app.
Note: On Business plans, only admins and owners can use developer mode, and each one turns it on individually. It can't be turned on for members.
Go to Workspace settings → Apps → Create. Enter the name ("Predictive Index"), a description, and the Server URL: https://mcp.predictiveindex.com/mcp.
Choose "OAuth," scan the tools, check them against the "How the Predictive Index MCP works" section, and create the app.
Confirm Predictive Index appears under Workspace settings → Apps → Drafts.
Note: Members can't see the draft until you publish it.
Step 2: Test and publish (admin)
To test the connection: In a new chat, open the + menu, select "Predictive Index," and enter this prompt: “Show me my behavioral assessment results.” (Or, run the test in "Verifying PI's MCP connection.")
In Drafts, select Predictive Index → Publish and acknowledge the notice.
Important: On Business plans, you can't edit a published app. When PI changes the connector's tools, you'll need to delete the app, recreate it, and publish it again. PI will notify you when changes are made. See: Keeping the connector up to date.
Step 3: Connect (each member)
In your ChatGPT settings, find Predictive Index (labeled "custom") under Apps or Plugins and click "Connect."
Sign in with your PI account and approve the consent screen.
To test the connection: In a new chat, open the + menu, select "Predictive Index," and enter this prompt: “Show me my behavioral assessment results.” (Or, run the test in "Verifying PI's MCP connection.")

Enterprise and Edu plans
Step 1: Choose who can build the app (admin)
Go to Workspace settings → Permissions & roles and open the "Connected data" section. (In newer workspaces it's called "Plugins & connected data.")
Grant developer mode only to the people who will build the app, usually you or a small IT group.
Note: Members who will only use the MCP don't need developer mode. Developer mode lets people build and connect any custom MCP app, so we recommend keeping it limited.
Each builder turns developer mode on under Settings → Apps → Advanced settings → Developer mode.
Step 2: Create the app (admin or builder)
Go to Workspace settings → Apps → Create. Enter the name ("Predictive Index"), a description, and the Server URL: https://mcp.predictiveindex.com/mcp.
Choose "OAuth," scan the tools, check them against the "How the Predictive Index MCP works" section, and create the app.
Confirm Predictive Index appears under Drafts.
To test the connection: In a new chat, open the + menu, select "Predictive Index," and enter this prompt: “Show me my behavioral assessment results.” (Or, run the test in "Verifying PI's MCP connection.")
Step 3: Publish and scope it (admin or owner)
In Drafts, select Predictive Index → Publish.
In Configure Actions, enable PI's tools.
Note: SwitchCompany tool might be labeled as a write action because it saves which PI company your answers use. It never creates, changes, or deletes PI data. Enable it so people with access to more than one company can switch. If Obi returns nothing after you set this up, enable all of PI's actions and contact our Product Manager, Stefano Hernandez, at [email protected].
In Configure Access, choose the roles or groups that should get Obi.
For the New actions setting, we recommend "Only enable new read actions."
Acknowledge the notice to finish publishing. (The app moves from "Drafts" to "Enabled.")
Note: Only admins and owners can publish the app.
Step 4: Connect (each member)
In your ChatGPT settings, find Predictive Index (labeled "custom") under Apps or Plugins and click "Connect."
Sign in with your PI account and approve the consent screen.
To test the connection: In a new chat, open the + menu, select "Predictive Index," and enter this prompt: “Show me my behavioral assessment results.” (Or, run the test in "Verifying PI's MCP connection.")

Keeping the connector up to date
ChatGPT saves a copy of PI's tool list when the app is first created or approved, and it doesn't pick up later changes on its own. ChatGPT also doesn't alert admins or users when that copy goes out of date. If PI adds, renames, or changes a tool, calls may fail until the app is updated.
Only changes to PI's tools need an update. Improvements to the MCP's answers reach you automatically. PI will inform you when changes are made to the MCP.
