Creating a review template

This article applies to organization admins, third-party users, and product admins in the PI2 platform

PI2 is the latest version of the Predictive Index software.
If you are using a legacy version of PI, this article will
likely not match your experience.
Which product version do I have?

Use the Templates page within Review Administration to personalize review cycle questions to your team’s liking.

How to find review templates in Perform

  1. Log in to PI Perform.
  2. Click on “Reviews” on the left-hand side.
  1. Select “Review Administration” from the options.
  1. You’ll land on the “Review cycles” tab of the Review Administration page.
  2. Click the “Templates” tab near the top of the screen.

Here, you’ll see a “Standard review template” built by PI, along with any custom review templates created by you or another admin.

How to create a new template

There are two ways to create a new review template:

Creating a blank template

From the Templates page:

  1. Click the “Create template” button in the top right.
  1. Enter a name and description for the template.
  1. You’ll see three different question groupings:
  • Self review – questions intended for the review recipient
  • Manager review – questions intended for the manager
  • Summary – questions designed to help the manager summarize the review
  1. Click into a grouping.
  1. Select “Add content.”
  1. Select the type of question from the “Content type” dropdown.
  1. Specify the question, description, and any supporting options.
  1. (Optional) Set the question as “optional” if you want to allow the recipient to skip it.
  1. (Optional) Click “Add Content” to create another question.
  1. When finished, click “Back to template” in the top left.
  1. Repeat as needed for the other question groupings.
  1. Save changes by clicking “Save & Exit” in the top right. (Important: You can save and exit at any time. However, to use your template, you must provide at least one question per section.)

Note: When completing Manager Questions, you will see another optional field: “private question.” Toggle this option if you want the question answered by the manager but not shared with the review recipient.

For example, you may wish to ask the manager a performance question that leverages sensitive information or data.

Duplicate an existing template

From the Templates page:

  1. Click the “More actions” button next to the template you’d like to duplicate.
  2. Click “Duplicate template.”
  1. You’ll be brought to a pre-populated template, ready to modify.
  1. Modify your template as needed by following steps 3 through 12 from the above section.

How to use your review template

To use your new review template, initiate a review cycle. During the setup process, you’ll be prompted to select a template from your list of existing ones.

FAQs

I’m not sure what questions to create. Is there a recommended starting point?
Yes! We created a “Standard review template” that you’re free to use as is or duplicate and modify to fit your needs.

Our template is located on the Templates page, and is denoted by a grey “Default” tag.
Who can see a question marked as “private”?
Private questions are only visible to the manager completing the question, and admins. Review recipients will not see these questions.
When does the manager complete the summary questions?
The summary is completed only after both the manager and the direct report have completed their respective reviews. Once the manager summarizes the review, they will be prompted to share it with the review recipient.
What is “AI Summary”?
This is a question type you can add to a manager’s Summary section. By using the AI summary, managers can generate a written summary of the review—including both manager and direct report responses—as a quick starting point to further refine.
How do I add instructions or context to my template?
When adding content to your template, choose the “New section + description” content type from the available options.

You’ll be able to enter a section header and description—perfect for introducing a review or framing different portions of the review.
How do I preview a template?
From the Review Administration page:

1. Select the Templates tab.

2. Find the template you’d like to preview.

3. Click the ellipsis icon.

4. Select “Preview template.”
