This article applies to all users in the PI2 platform.
As you learn to navigate the PI software, you will likely encounter 2 different types of invitations you can send employees:
You can invite them to take the PI Behavioral Assessment ("BA").
You can invite them to log in as a PI software user.
While both are technically "invitations," these are inherently different workflows. As such, it's important to understand the differences in order to use PI effectively.
Tip: Looking to invite employees to take a PI Diagnose engagement survey? Learn how to do so.
Workflow #1: Inviting employees to take the BA
The PI software is powered by The Predictive Index's flagship Behavioral Assessment. By inviting employees to take the BA, you'll be able to perform the following actions with their results:
Inspire
View their Behavioral Report, including their Snapshot
Generate a Relationship Guide with another co-worker
Hire
Model them as a top performer when creating a Job Target
Design
Add them to a team and see where they land on the Team Map
Perform
View their Reference Profile in 1:1 or group workspaces
Note: Diagnose does not currently interact with PI behavioral data.
When to use this workflow: You'll generally want to invite an employee to take the BA when:
You're interested in understanding their PI behavioral results
You want to share their results with the employee, their manager, or a training facilitator (e.g., L&D)
The employee excelled in a job role, and you'd like to model a Job Target after them for future hires
They currently use the PI software (e.g., Perform or Design) but haven't yet taken the PI Behavioral Assessment
Workflow #2: Inviting employees to log in to PI
Whereas workflow #1 is designed to help you populate your PI software with employee behavioral data, workflow #2 invites employees to actually use the PI software for themselves.
By inviting employees into the PI software, you allow them to:
Create a PI software account (if they don't already have one)
Log in to the software using an email and password
Leverage PI's products (e.g., Hire, Inspire, Perform, Design, Diagnose)
View other employees' behavioral data
Note: When inviting employees to use the PI software, you can set their permissions based on what you'd like them to see and do.

When to use this workflow: You should invite an employee to use the PI software when:
They're a recruiter or hiring manager and would like to use our hiring software
They're a manager, L&D, or HR leader who wants to access and share employee behavioral results
They're a manager, L&D, or HR leader who wants to create and share teams
They're an HR leader who wants to view and send employee engagement surveys
They an employee, manager, or HR leader who needs access to PI Perform (so they can collaborate in workspaces, participate in performance reviews, etc.)
When not to use this workflow: Generally speaking, do not invite an employee to use the PI software if:
You don't want them to log in to the PI software.
They only need access to their own PI behavioral results. (You can instead email their results from the software.)
You don't want them to view other employees' or candidates' data.
FAQs
Are PI's invitation workflows mutually exclusive?
Are PI's invitation workflows mutually exclusive?
Not at all! You can invite an employee to take the Behavioral Assessment, then decide later that you want to invite them into the software.
Likewise, you might invite someone into the software who hasn't taken the assessment, only to have them take the assessment at a later date.
Tip: Want to invite employees into the software and have them take the assessment at the same time? Upload an organization file with their information (name, email, etc.), and you can do both in a single workflow.
Does inviting employees into the PI software automatically send them the PI Behavioral Assessment?
Does inviting employees into the PI software automatically send them the PI Behavioral Assessment?
The answer depends on how/where you're inviting employees into the software:
PI Administration
If you invite employees via the "Upload Org File" button in Administration, you will have the option to invite to the software, invite to take the BA, do both, or do neither. (This option is the most complex but offers the most flexibility.)
If you invite employees via the "Invite Users" button in Administration, they will be invited into the software but not be sent the Behavioral Assessment.
PI Hire
If you invite employees via the "Share Job" button in Hire, they will be invited into the software but not be sent the Behavioral Assessment.
PI Inspire
To invite an employee from Inspire, you must first send them the PI Behavioral Assessment and then grant them software access.
PI Perform
If you invite employees via the "Invite Teammates" button in Perform, they will be invited into the software but not be sent the Behavioral Assessment.
PI Design
If you invite employees via the "Share Team" button in Design, they will be invited into the software but not be sent the Behavioral Assessment.
If you add employees to a team in Design, and the team is set to "Invite and notify team members," they will be invited into the software; they will also be sent an invitation to complete the Behavioral Assessment.
If you add employees to a team in Design, and the team is set to "Restrict access and notifications," they will not be invited into the software; they will, however, be sent an invitation to complete the Behavioral Assessment.
Note: You cannot invite employees into the PI software from PI Diagnose.
Does sending the PI Behavioral Assessment automatically invite employees into the PI software?
Does sending the PI Behavioral Assessment automatically invite employees into the PI software?
Generally, no. When sending the assessment to an employee, you will always have the ability to control whether they will also be invited into the software.
I want to invite an employee into the software, but I want to restrict what they can see and do. How?
I want to invite an employee into the software, but I want to restrict what they can see and do. How?
When inviting employees to use the PI software, you can set their permissions based on what you'd like them to see and do.
To restrict what employees can do:
Modify their product access levels. (This allows you to grant/restrict access on a per-product level.)
To restrict what employees can see:
Modify their behavioral data permissions. (This lets you limit the behavioral data that a given employee can see when using the PI software.)

The engagement survey invitation process takes place directly in PI Diagnose. Learn how to send engagement surveys.
